Libraries are using podcasts much the same way that they are using other types of Web 2.0. They produce podcasts on information about events, how-tos, book reviews, and the like.
The podcast gives them a chance to provide an audio, some times video, file that the patron can then listen to or view at anytime. Most of the podcasts will be informational: be it events, reviews or otherwise.
The video podcast, like YouTube, allows the library to post visual how-tos, so that patrons can actually see how it is done. A visual book review could be done showing front cover and back cover, as someone gives a brief synopsis.
As libraries become more comfortable producing podcasts further uses for the podcasts will present themselves.
